Osman Hope is an ecumenical Christian-based organization that serves children through partnerships with churches, local governments, private agencies, and individuals. Osman Hope currently has three shelters operating in Honduras - one in La Lima, one in Santa Cruz de Yojoa and one in Villanueva. We also provide daily lunches and an afternoon snack for 60 children in Rivera Hernandez. These are all locations in the San Pedro Sula area
The Osman Hope shelters provide benefits and nutritious food that would not normally be available to these children. Since 2002, we have seen the positive changes in the children’s lives. They are in a structured environment in the shelters where normally they would be playing in the streets. They receive better nutrition, their schoolwork has improved significantly (test scores have skyrocketed!), and they have become outgoing individuals where before they were introverted.
Osman Hope raises funds from various activities in the United States and Canada. These include a Golf Outing, Mission Trips to Honduras, Grants, Appeals and Child Sponsorship. Basically the shelters have two costs, child care and the salaries of the care givers at the shelters. All of the administrative costs of running Osman Hope are paid for by the Board of Directors. 100% of all donations go to the care of the children.
We believe that with the help that these children recieve, they will possess the tools needed to break their cycle of poverty.
Osman Hope Inc. believes that by establishing shelters in Honduras we provide children protection from the elements, nourishment for the body, enrichment for the spirit and educational opportunities for the mind. Daily, there are 165 children helped by our shelters. The children are given nutritious meals and snacks, help with their homework and spiritual guidance. Each shelter has the additional benefit of a bilingual employee who teaches the children basic English. The children are provided free medical and dental help along with the corresponding medicine. Twice a year, we ship to the shelters hundreds of pounds of school supplies, clothes, toys, drawing materials, handicraft items, etc. This helps to facilitate the children attending school with the needed school supplies that are required by their teachers. Osman Hope also has a High School scholarship program. Currently there are 11 children on scholarship.
The caregivers of the children are all local Hondurans. The employees range from administrators and teachers, to cooks and guards. Meet our Caregivers!
The Board of Osman Hope is comprised of nine individuals who come from various walks of life, including Mission Work, Day Care, Finance, Construction and Non-Profit Management. Including the board, the various support functions of Osman Hope are provided on a purely volunteer basis. The Board of Osman Hope pays for all of the administrative costs for the operation of the non-profit company. By doing this, we insure that every donation to Osman Hope goes 100% to the care of our children in Honduras. Meet our Board!
The Osman Hope shelters are built to fit into the neighborhoods/areas that they serve. To see more about each shelter, Click here.
